PHILIP BUTTERFIELD

Philip Butterfield is currently the Chairman of Bermuda First, a Think Tank commissioned by the Premier of Bermuda to develop a National Socio-Economic Plan.

He served as Chairman of HSBC Bank of Bermuda from May 2012 to December 2015. Prior to this, he held the position of CEO of the Bank from February 2004 until May 2012. He was COO of the Bank of Bermuda (prior to the acquisition by HSBC) from 2002 to 2004 with responsibility for Global Operations, Systems, Human Resources, Audit, Compliance and Legal Affairs. He joined the Bank of Bermuda in 2000 as Chief Administration Officer.

Prior to this, he held a number of senior positions with Citibank which he joined in 1972, retiring in 2000. Former non-profit relationships include: Bermuda Health Foundation (Chaitman); Bank of Bermuda Foundation; American Classical Orchestra; Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust (Chairman); John Hopkins Medicine (Trustee); Cities in Schools NYC; and Boys Choir of Harlem (Chairman). For profit Board experience includes: Endurance Re; Bermuda Life Center; Bermuda Monetaiy Authority. In addition to the Bermuda First role,Phil serves as Chairman of the Carver Foundation Norwalk Connecticut; Social Venture Partners CT (Board Member/Partner).

Phil received his Bachelor and MBA Degrees from New York University.

Phil lives in Wilton CT with his wife Roz and they have two daughters Charlene and Vernee.
